| Jining is situated in the southwest of Shandong Province, neighbouring Jiangsu, Henan and Anhui provinces, connecting east China and north China, Shandong peninsula and China’s central area, linking Yangtze River and Yellow River. Its geographic position is 115.54—117.06 degrees east longitude and 34.25—35.55 degrees north latitude. It covers an area of 10685 square kilometers, among which there are low-lying land, lakes, hills and 5068 square kilometers of plain, amounting to 47.6% of the whole. The western part is lower compared with the eastern one . In the east of the city there are mountains and hills; in the west, the river-flooded plain; and in the center, lakes, including Nanyang Lake, Dushan Lake, Zhaoyang Lake and Weishan Lake. Jining City has a temperate continental monsoon climate. It has four distinct seasons and enjoys abundant sunshine and rainfall. The average annual precipitation is about 597—820 mm. The land is 1.1204 million hectares, including 535.2 thousand hectares of cultivated land. The total reserve of water resources is 4.998 billion cubic meters, including 3.371 billion cubic meters of surface water and 1.626 billion cubic meters of underground water. The total amount of usable water is 3.037 billion cubic meters, including 1.293 billion cubic meters of underground water. There are various kinds of animals and plants. The main agricultural products include wheat, rice, corn and cotton, among which the famous brands are Qufu rice, Yunong No.1 rice, Golden grain, and Sishui bean. There are over 70 kinds of proven mineral resources in Jining, most of which is coal. The coal-occupied area reaches 3,400 square km, amounting to 35% of its total land area. Proven coal reserves amount to 25 billion tons, mainly in Yanzhou, Qufu, Zoucheng, Jining and Weishan, making Jining one of the eight largest coal bases in China. Rare earth resources amount to 12.75 million tons, ranking second in China. The proven limestone resources amount to 900 million tons. |
