| By making best use of the advantage of being the hometown of Confucius and many other great ancient saints and resorting to means of hosting festivals and cultural activities, Jining has made great efforts to develop its tourism industry. In 2004, it won the title of “China’s Excellent Tourism City”. By the end of 2004, there have been 23 “star” hotels, 80 travel agencies and 4 tourism development corporations. There are four major tourism zones, namely, the Confucius and Mencius Cultural Tourism Zone, the Shuihu Hero Tourism Zone, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Tourism Zone and the Weishan Lake Scenery Tourism Zone. Among them, Confucius Temple, Confucius Mansion and Confucius Cemetery have been put on the UNESCO’s list of World Cultural Heritage. In 2004, the city received 104,000 overseas tourists. The foreign exchange brought by overseas tourists to the city reached 16.469 million US dollars. Meanwhile, more than 10.159 million Chinese travelers visited Jining, bringing about a total revenue of 6.132 billion yuan. In 2004, the tourism industry generated a total revenue of 6.269 billion yuan. |
